Yahoo Group Tutorial

Note on yahoo groups:   You will be able to send mail as soon as a moderator (currently Julia and Bob) subscribes you. Any message sent or reply made to a message from the group goes to the WHOLE group. If you only wanted to reply to one person you must edit the TO: portion of the message.  Yahoo groups feature other facilities beyond mail such as a calendar that can send out reminders for events. To fully use all the facilities of the Yahoo groups, get a Yahoo id.

To get a Yahoo ID, follow these steps

  1. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/ Under Sign In, click on Click here to register. Fill out all the forms choosing a Yahoo ID and password. Be sure to write your ID and password down. You will need these to access Yahoo on the Web. A confusing item, alternate email, is just your regular email address. I don’t know why they call it "alternate". If you would like to specify additional email addresses you can do so later.Be sure to UNCHECK the box that sends you lots of junk mail (called "special offers"). Now the system will send you an email with the subject “Registration confirmation - Yahoo". To activate the account you just set up, click on the indicated portion of the message. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups in your browser.  You will not see any groups listed yet. To connect your subscriptions to your Yahoo id, click on Membership Wizard and follow the directions. The Membership Wizard connects all your subscriptions to your Yahoo id, using your email address as a key.
  2. You’re finished! You can use Yahoo fully now. You might want to bookmark or set as favorite: http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups
